Control Your Destiny By Making It Happen – One Day At a Time

I took a photo of this sign this morning created by a high school graduate.

This morning I attended a high school graduation ceremony where I found a ton of handmade signs displayed throughout the campus. While many focused on congratulating the Class of 2021, I could not help but notice a sign that read, “Stop waiting for things to happen, go out and make them happen.” I took a moment to snap a photo of it so I could post it onto my blog because it’s definitely both a powerful and motivating message.

I value that it is a rather straightforward statement and one that anyone can apply to one’s own life. People need to learn to create opportunities and attract positive life experiences by actually going out there and making them happen. If you just sit around and expect opportunities to knock on your door, then the people who actually are going out there to grab them are always going to be the ones who obtain the opportunity before you do.

Every action step you take is always better than no action at all. It is amazing that a collection of actions can add up and really create an impact over time. Never get discouraged by the process and the time it takes to get to the end goal because it is worth it in the long run. Everyone is capable of achieving great things but it is always up to the individual to determine the quality and the quantity. We all can create a bright and beautiful destiny–all it takes is taking the action necessary to make it happen which can be done by taking it one day at a time.

Happy One Year Anniversary – Makeupthelifeyoulove.com

It is crazy to think that today is the one year anniversary of launching this blog publicly onto WordPress. I actually had started working on this website during the height of the pandemic last April and May (that is why my very first content was posted in May of 2020) but I did not make it public until June 1, 2020. I knew that I wanted to get back into blogging again and the quarantine last year provided me the ample time needed to start this writing project from scratch. I have blogged on and off throughout my life but decided I wanted to commit myself to something of substance and with a positive purpose.

Considering I only write as a hobby, I am amazed at the increase in readership since I started this time last year. I peruse my blog statistics every so often to see that I attract people from around the world along with repeat readers who are now also loyal subscribers. As of today, I have 219 subscribers which is a remarkable number as most are people I do not know in real life. Whether you stumbled across this at random from a search engine just for a single blog post or you visit here more frequently, just know that I appreciate each and every one of you who take the time to read my content! I really strive to help people make better life choices, feel good about themselves, and to walk away feeling empowered AF! 🙂 If I can make any impact on your life for the better through my writing, then I could not be happier as this is what makes blogging such an incredibly rewarding hobby.

Happy anniversary to my blog today and thank you to my readers who make this a meaningful experience! ❤

(PS – If you are curious as to what was my most popular post written last year, it was this one. I noticed in the month of May, it received over 500 hits alone).

Authenticity Can Create Success If You Take the Time to Develop It

When people think about what qualities are needed to be successful in life, I can think of many words that are associated with success. The first words that come to my mind are hardworking, passionate, determined, disciplined, and proactive. There is no denying that these are effective qualities that will propel someone to advance and achieve many amazing things in a lifetime.

However, I want to share a quality that is often underestimated and not really talked about all too often. I strongly believe that being authentic is a driving force behind becoming a highly successful individual. What exactly is authenticity? I would describe authenticity simply as being true to yourself. One might wonder, well how is “being true to yourself” ever going to provide success? The problem is, most people do not take the time to dig deep and discover what being true to self means to them. In addition, many people are too heavily impacted by society, social media, and the outside world to the point where they go through the motions of life doing what they think they are “supposed to do” or what is expected of them. These same people tend to be too busy looking at what everyone else is doing rather than staying focused on their individual path and living a life of authenticity. For example, society tends to promote professional success to equate to this life equation: Go to college, obtain a degree, find a career, and voila–you can then live happily ever after with financial security and the ability to make lots of money. Let’s be real, this path is NOT for everyone. Did you know that there are plenty of successful people who did NOT go to college or they advanced in something that did not even require a college degree? My point is, life should not be pursued with a ‘one size fits all’ mentality as what works for one person might not be the right path for someone else. It is for this reason that you need to determine what being authentic means to you.

Everyone is born with special gifts and various interests and it is up to you to thoroughly explore them. You would be amazed at what hobbies can actually turn into a business and/or career. Think about the things you most naturally gravitated towards as a young child or adult. Something to also think about: What brings you intrinsic happiness and what do you value most in life? In order to be authentic, you will need to do the work and focus on your own self development. From there, expand on these talents and interests by mastering them and then actually find a way to utilize them. Do not be so concerned on whether or not it will bring you immediate wealth because I do believe that the money will naturally be manifested over time if you just keep doing what you’re doing and put your energy towards being amazing at something that you truly love and care about. Even if society or those around you do not fully support your aspirations, still stay true to yourself as you can always prove them otherwise later (after you become successful that is). 😉

Change Your Narrative to Change the Outcome – How to Shift a Negative Narrative Into a Positive One

Life is very much about achieving your best possible outcome, typically within the most dominant areas of your life such as your career, relationships, health, and financial future. What you might not think much about is how you control your personal narrative which ultimately impacts the overall outcome. Which leads me to the question: Are you consciously aware of how you are setting up your life path?

Sometimes you will come across someone (or perhaps this might describe you) who hold onto such a heavy amount of negativity which sadly deteriorates the narrative. What’s the outcome? As one could predict, not a positive one.

“I never went to college, so I will never be successful.”

“I have a learning disability, so I already am at a disadvantage in life.”

“I’m not physically attractive, nobody wants to be with me.”

“I am too old now, I am not desirable enough to get married.”

“I can barely pay my bills, I will never be able to purchase a house.”

It is normal from time to time to go through moments of doubt; however, this should never be the primary focus in your mind and determine the final destination within your life. So let’s change the narrative a bit…

“I don’t need to go to college to be a successful individual. I have other skills and talents that will guarantee me happiness, wealth, AND success.”

“A learning disability does not define who I am nor limit what life has to offer me. I can achieve what I want like anyone else can.”

“I love my self image and am physically attractive to the people who know a good thing when they see it.”

“Age does not dictate when I find love or when marriage is right for me. I am destined to get married to the love of my life in my future.”

“Each and every day, I am working towards buying my dream house.”

Do you see the radical difference? It is amazing what a simple shift can do to uplift your spirits and get you on the right track. Of course there are going to be instances in life where you might project a positive mindset and narrative in how you want your life to pan out and it does not go as planned. This is not an excuse for you to give up or cloud your mind with negative thoughts so do not ever allow this to be an option!

In order to make the positive change on your personal narrative, here are some things to consider:

– Actually take the time to think about what you want most and the positive things that you would like to attract. Many people live day by day but are not thinking much about their future. Once you determine what you want, do not focus on the limiting factors that could be preventing you from achieving what you want–instead you need to work with what you already have and take the action steps that are required of you to manifest what you want most.

– If it does not come natural for you to think positively, actually take the time to write positive affirmations that apply to you AND read them daily. Ideally this can be done before bed and when you wake up so they can transfer within your subconscious mind over time. This simple practice is more helpful than you realize and best of all, it is never too late in life to get started.

As important as it to create a [positive] life narrative, you actually NEED to believe in your narrative! If you are not at a place where you believe what you want to achieve, then this just means you need to work on yourself. FYI, this is something we all should be doing on a regular basis–creating our best version of self. When we actually become our best version of self, with that comes self love and positivity which will allow you to naturally attract everything you want because of your strong belief you can have it all. 🙂

Fixate on Everything You DO Have (Not What is Lacking) to Increase Positivity and Abundance In Your Life

Often times I have conversations with people and I cannot help but notice how unhappy and empty they appear to feel inside. This can range from someone complaining about every little thing, making excuses as to why their life is the way it is (aka miserable), and/or their energy is focused on everything they are lacking. I believe that often times, the greatest barrier that is preventing someone like this from growing and attracting abundance into their life stems from their mindset–a very negative, limiting, and weak one. This is where you need to make a conscious effort to stop yourself from clouding your mind with these negative thoughts and get into a habit of developing more positive ones. The truth is, life is not going to be sunshine and rainbows at all times. There will be storms and dark clouds (spiritually speaking) along the way but you cannot focus on the darkness because it will eventually subside and it is only temporary. Remember, it is as temporary as your mind determines it to be so the quicker your mind can move on from the negativity, the better. Although it is natural and okay to feel moments of doubt and unhappiness from time to time, you cannot allow these feelings to dominate your mind on a regular basis–you need to consciously detach yourself from developing these into permanent feelings.

I also want to point out that everyone is born with special gifts and talents which we need to continue to build and expand on. Don’t focus on what you are missing, focus on what you got going for you. EVERYONE has SOMETHING to offer! What is your special gift? What gives your life purpose and how can you provide value to yourself and others? Look at what you have going for you and learn to be thankful for all your amazing attributes instead of complaining about what you don’t have. This most certainly applies to your looks too. So what if you’re not that tall? So what if you don’t like the shape of your nose? Whatever it is that you perceive as an “imperfection,” why are you not acknowledging your very best features? People tend to complain about what they wish they had and might go through drastic measures to change them when they should be owning what they do have instead. I do not want to hear that you cannot live a better life or be happy because of something you are missing which stems from what is missing on the inside. Continue to focus on what’s great. At the end of the day, you need to work with what you have and fully go with it!

Pursuit of Independent Happiness – Why It Is Needed Within Your Personal Relationships

I know the title might sound like a bit of a contradiction. On the one hand, you should pursue your own independent happiness yet how can a personal relationship survive if you are only focusing on your self development and life goals? That’s a good question but I am here to provide you with an explanation as to why it is important to continue your pursuit of independent happiness for the greater good of your personal relationships.

Often times when people get locked into a serious relationship, there are sacrifices that are needed to be made to keep the relationship going which can include one or both partners being in a position that they are forced to put their personal goals in the back burner. In addition, usually one although sometimes both people might become too overly dependent on the other person as their primary source of happiness. This is where relationships can become unhealthy and ultimately fall apart over time. Why? You need two independently happy individuals. Each need their own set of life goals, interests, social lives, and things that they do that is completely separate from their partner. Together, they can build each other up and support each other but each person needs to still prioritize their own best interests and build a strong foundation from within above anything else as opposed to giving all this up once finding someone to share their life with. If you have one person on a path of success while the other is still “figuring it out,” I do not think this is an ideal match because being at two very different stages of life can create its own set of challenges unless the more successful partner is okay with this dynamic and can accept things as they are. Remember, any relationship has the potential to last but this requires the right amount of effort, patience, and commitment from two people who are willing to put in the work to preserve the longevity of the relationship.

If you find that you are not happy where you are in the current state of your life, then continue to work on it! Think positively by knowing that many great things in life take time to manifest and are worth the wait. Stay patient, determined, consistent, and stay on a focused path to get to where you need to go in your life to provide you the independent happiness you are striving for. Even if that means forgoing being in a relationship right now, know that investing the extra time in yourself is ultimately the best investment you could be making not only for you but for when the time is right for that special someone to walk into your life. 😉 By the time you are ready, you can then actually offer them the very best version of yourself which is a key component in building a healthy, fulfilling, and everlasting personal relationship.

100 E-mail Followers (Thank You) – The Importance of Acknowledging the Small Milestones in Life

I do not remember the exact date but I happened to notice sometime last week that I have over 100 e-mail subscribers at the present moment. I just looked again now as I started to write this post and I have 107 to be exact (FYI, I only know two of these people in real life). This is a small milestone that I think is important to acknowledge because I realize there are thousands (perhaps millions) of other bloggers in this world and I am a small fish in a big sea of content. I started this blog less than a year ago during the height of the pandemic as it was a writing project that I always wanted to pursue and I knew it would manifest organically when the time was right in my life. Last spring I found myself like many others quarantined at home out of safety and it was this ample amount of isolation and solitude that provided me the mental space and spiritual energy to put towards the creation of this blog–something that adds meaning to my life and hopefully can add value to the lives of my readers as this has always been my ultimate goal.

[A huge thank you to everyone who is a loyal reader and to the ones who might have stumbled upon this at random and were able to get something out of it. I appreciate it beyond words as I do find a sense of purpose behind what I do and see this not only as a hobby but also as part of my life’s work to inspire, uplift, and help people through my words and inner thoughts].

I believe in the expression, “Rome was not built in a day.” While many find themselves chasing instant gratification, I always will appreciate the longer road to the final destination because I believe that hard work is often needed along with time, diligence, and patience. We need to find ways to value the journey and all the small milestones along the way because they surely do add up over time. Some things in life might come rather instantly while others are in the works and are in the manifestation process. It is for this reason that you should continue to persistently put in the hard work that is needed to achieve your goals while also remembering to trust the process. There is no need to rush as the right things will come along when the time is right. (So do not forget to appreciate the small things as they will often lead to bigger and better things in the future and sometimes when you least expect it). 😉

If You Are Not the Person You Want to Be – 5 Steps to Get You Closer

As we step into yet another new year, we often think this is the time to come up with some resolutions with the mindset that this is going to be our greatest year yet. The truth of the matter is, our lives are constantly a work in progress and essentially a masterpiece we are creating one stroke at a time, in other words each and every day. The beginning of a new year is a great time to refocus on what we are looking to achieve while for some it might be a good time to press the reset button and start something entirely new.

Another thought to consider is, who are you today and who is the person that you want to become? After digging deep and thinking about that, the next thought is to ask yourself, how do you become that person and what is it going to take to do so? In order to become the person you aspire to be, here are five things you can do to build yourself up:

Have a Vision – Everything starts with a vision. You need to start by proactively thinking about the life you want to live including the life experiences and lifestyle you want to acquire. It should excite you just thinking about the vision within your mind, the more vivid the better.

Write It Down – As much as it is important to create the thoughts in your mind, thinking and talking about anything is not the same as actually writing it down. That is why I advise taking the time to write down in a journal or an index card specifically who you want to be and taking it a step further by planning out ways you can achieve this.

Create Affirmations – If you have never taken the time to write affirmations about yourself, this is a great time to start. Affirmations are powerful because they are statements you are declaring about yourself. Even if you do not fully believe in what you are writing right now, it will sink in your mind over time if you repeat them in order to start believing them.

Improve Your Habits – In order to become a better person or get better at anything, focusing on your habits and improving them is key. I also recommend finding a way to track your progress as this holds you more accountable and you can see your growth over time.

Study the People You Admire – Is there someone in your life whom you greatly respect or perhaps a famous person whom you admire? This is a good opportunity to learn about them by taking some mental notes on how they live their lives and then applying what they do to better your own life while continuing to look up to them as a role model.

A Time to Reflect – What I Do on Every New Year’s Day

For starters, happy new year! 🙂 The years go by so fast that it is really hard to believe a new year is upon us. The year 2020 was a year that presented many challenges but on the positive side, we can all learn very much from these challenges. It took many of us out of our comfort zones which I do not view as a bad thing because this tests our inner strength and can only make us stronger. I am not dismissing the fact that 2020 was a rough year on so many of us but just acknowledging that we can still find good things rather than only focus on the negatives.

New Year’s Day for me is a time of solitude and reflection. This is not to say that I stay isolated all day as I am sure I can recall previous years where I was surrounded by others on New Year’s Day but more often than not, I usually find a good portion of the day to just be by myself. I find that it is calming and it spiritually energizes me to look at where I am today while focusing on where I want to be tomorrow. Whether it is a new year or not, I always want to be progressing in life and if I am going to fall, I’m surely going to fall forward.

I also take the time on New Year’s Day to write a letter to myself. I cannot recall when exactly I started this New Year’s tradition but I am going to say this started at least ten years ago by this point. It is never a long letter but I tend to write about where I am at that moment on that day and also write where I predict I will be a year later. I find it really interesting to read the letter a year later because it captures that moment in time while also seeing how much changes from year-to-year. Although many areas of my life stay relatively stable, I do find my life from one year to the next can be rather unpredictable. (Ex: I think we can all agree that there was no way we could have predicted that we would be living through a pandemic right now).

Although many people might not be too fond of writing, I recommend taking some time out of your day to write a New Year’s letter to yourself. You can write about anything such as where you are right now in life, what you see in your future, and whatever is of relevance to you at the present moment. There are no specific guidelines as to how to do this as this is a personal letter that you are writing to yourself and for no one else to read (personally–I never share the letter with anyone). After you write the letter, you can seal it and store it in a safe place to not be opened until January 1st, 2022. I find the thought of what the first day of the year 2022 is hard for me to fathom right now but it is intriguing thinking about next year on the first day of the current new year.

People Who Are Connected to the Universe Believe in These 3 Principles

I can tell a lot about someone based on how they talk about their lives and specifically how spiritually connected they are to the Universe. On the surface, there are some people who come off as extremely lucky. It is not that these people are more lucky than someone else, they are just more spiritually connected to the Universe. They believe in certain principles that bring them everything that they want. I guess you can say they create their own luck but I believe it goes beyond that. Their luck stems from the depth of their spirituality paired with a strong, positive mindset, not so much at random or by coincidence despite it appearing that way. It is never too late to become more spiritual so even if you don’t believe in these things at the present moment, you can start to adapt them at any time.

Trust the Process / Everything is in its Right Place – People who are deeply connected to the Universe are always under the understanding that everything is in its right place in their current place of time. In other words, what is meant to be will be. Even during unfortunate times, they recognize that they need to experience that in order to get to the greater good. They don’t hold regrets about anything they experience in their lives because it shapes their inner being and they know everything that happens has a purpose–both the good and the bad.

The Universe is Full of Abundance – The Universe has endless opportunities and provides abundance for everyone who believes in this principle. This is why people who are spiritually connected to the Universe are never bent regarding a lost job or a failed relationship along with anything they no longer have or have just yet. They know that opportunities will come and go but that there are many to go around. There is no reason to be jealous of someone else’s abundance because there are unlimited opportunities for everyone. Rather than feeling sorry for themselves for not having something that someone else has, they congratulate them and know that they will get everything that they want as well because the Universe is the gift that keeps on giving.

Be Grateful For Everything You Currently Have While Always Striving for More – People who are connected to the Universe are some of the most grateful individuals you will ever meet in this world. Even if they do not have much, they are still grateful for the little things they do have. They never focus on the things they lack but invest their energy on all the things they are grateful for having which attracts more abundance into their lives. Even those who have obtained a lot do not take it for granted and are thankful to the Universe for providing them everything that they want. They also deeply believe in this: Everything they want is on its way. 😉 It doesn’t have to be tomorrow, they know all good things are worth waiting for and it goes back to the first principle, they trust the process in which they are in the process of receiving their deepest desires.
